Welcome to junior rugby at Old Cranleighan RFC, the section of our club for players aged U12 – U18.
At these age grades rugby becomes more competitive and complex, with the introduction of cup tournaments and rules that begin to more closely resemble the senior game.
Our RFU trained and qualified coaches guide players through larger scrums, lineouts and position-specific skills. By the time players have reached our Colts section, they play a game very similar to full adult rugby with the main difference being slightly shorter game times.
Initially, competition at this level comes in the form of Waterfall Tournaments. These are supplemented with regular friendly and festival fixtures where the emphasis remains on fun and participation. By the time players reach the U15s they are ready to transition to knock out rugby competition.
At junior level we regularly recruit players who have no prior experience of playing rugby union. Our ethos of fun and playing flowing rugby pays off. We have seen players join from other sports and quickly thrive at OCs.
If your child wants to play rugby, we’ll welcome them regardless of their experience or ability. This approach to player development and competition reflects our desire to ensure that our club remains inclusive and dedicated to community sport.
Above all, youth rugby at Old Cranleighan RFC is about fun, a sense of belonging, friendship and developing a solid grasp of rugby fundamentals with the bonus of playing meaningful competitive games. We always prioritise these values and welcome and encourage enquiries to join our youth rugby section.
