U9s Team
Thanks for looking at the OCs for the development of your child’s rugby skills. The Under 9 age group is open to any boy or girl who is in Year 4 of school.
It is a great way for your child to develop their skills whilst running around, being active and above all having FUN, enjoying structured games that will keep them interested and excited.
It is about creating an environment where the children start to understand the key values that rugby provides - TEAMWORK, RESPECT, ENJOYMENT, DISCIPLINE, SPORTSMANSHIP.
This season we introduce contact rugby in a safe and controlled environment. Our coaches will teach the children to tackle correctly and safely. All children from this age group upwards will be required to wear a mouthguard. Teams are also now 7-a-side.
This age group will have joint training games against other teams both home and away, enjoy “triangular” (3-way tournaments) and enter festivals throughout the season.
Again, our philosophy is to let all the kids have as much playing time as possible - we realise that at this age players can change very quickly so we do not concentrate on the elite few but try and involve all the children in festivals and triangulars during the course of the season.
Towards the end of the season we will gradually introduce the concept of contact rugby in the run up to the following season.
Every Sunday from the first weekend of September through to April we start promptly at 9:30 (we suggest that you arrive soon after 9:15 to park). The session lasts for about 1¼ hours. The bar is open throughout for tea / coffee / bacon butties, and of course beer / wine for the adults.
